About the founder
I built GateMate because
I got tired of missing the moment.
I'm Dominique — the founder of GateMate. Somewhere between concerts, red-eyes, and a world that forgot how to make eye contact again, I got obsessed with a single idea: the best people you'll ever meet are already in the room with you. This is why I'm building the fix.
The story
We're all in the same room. We just stopped seeing each other.
I love live moments. Concerts, games, flights, lounges — I'll show up for a great one whether my group is coming or not. And somewhere along the way I realized: I wasn't the only one. Rooms full of us. Same show. Same terminal. Same city. Zero connection between any of us.
COVID didn't invent this — it just made it impossible to ignore. We spent two years learning how to be alone in public. How to keep our headphones in. How to stop making eye contact. And now we're back in the same rooms, at the same shows, on the same flights — and we forgot how to notice each other. That's not a personality thing. That's a systems thing. And it's fixable.
I kept collecting the receipts. The Delta lounge before a red-eye where six of us were clearly heading to the same conference. The Amex lounge on a Sunday morning full of people going somewhere interesting. Two rows over at a concert, staring at the same stage. The seat next to me at a Cowboys game. A two-hour flight where the conversation actually mattered — until the wheels hit the tarmac and it was over.
And it wasn't just the people I met and lost. It was the people I never met at all.The person who came to the same concert solo and would've been down to link up. The one filming a better angle of the exact moment I was trying to remember. All of us in the same place, at the same time, for the same reason — completely invisible to each other for no good reason.
That's the problem GateMate exists to solve. Not "meet strangers on the internet." Not "swipe on people who like the same bands." Something more specific, more human, and honestly overdue: make the people who are already here, with you, right now — visible again.
Because the best nights of your life aren't going to happen inside an app. They're going to happen in the room, at the show, in the seats, at the gate — with the people already standing next to you. GateMate just makes sure you actually meet them.
The moments we all keep missing
You've lived every one of these. So have I.
The concert we all showed up to
Thousands of people who love the same artist you love, all in one room — with no easy way to actually see each other.
The seat next to you at the game
You share a whole night of highs and lows with the person one seat over. Then the lights come up and they're gone forever.
The Delta and Amex lounges
Everyone in the lounge is going somewhere interesting. Everyone's on their phone. It shouldn't take a stranger's small talk to change that.
The two-hour conversation at 30,000 feet
A real conversation with your seatmate that actually meant something — and then the plane lands and there's no way to keep it going.
The show you almost skipped
You want to go but nobody in your circle is into it. Somewhere out there is someone with the same problem — and the same taste.
The angle you couldn't see
You're at the show live and want to see the moment from someone else's seat, someone else's phone, someone else's night.
What GateMate actually does
Presence beats profiles. Every time.
When you check into an event on GateMate, you're not swiping through curated dating profiles or hoping an algorithm serves up someone in your zip code. You're seeing the actual people who are in the room with you right now — at the same show, the same game, the same lounge, the same gate.
Meet them in the moment. Save the connection before you both walk away. Come back later and find the person you had that conversation with. See the night from someone else's angle. Find a concert buddy for the show you didn't want to go to alone.
That's it. That's the whole product. It's not trying to be a dating app, a chat app, or another feed to scroll. It's built for one thing: the people who are already here, that you almost met.
Come build this with me.
GateMate is live in DFW first. The earlier you're on the list, the earlier you get in, and the better your first night out becomes.
